Celebrities, Champagne and Sales Mark First Millburn Girls Night Out

MILLBURN, NJ – Over 600 women milled around the streets of Millburn Thursday night, sipping champagne and ducking into their favorite boutiques to escape the early fall drizzle. 80 retail establishments, marked by pink and green balloons, offered special promotions, raffles and giveaways.
“Millburn is a vibrant, dynamic community,” said Lisa Hackett, Executive Director of Downtown Millburn. “We hope to expose people to the businesses downtown, so they see all that Millburn has to offer.”
Participants were thrilled with the evening’s opportunities to let loose. “I am so excited that Millburn is making some fun for women,” said resident Ilana Voremburg. “We can take a few hours to refresh. We hope for many more nights like this.”
For Judish Chabonon, Girls Night Out provided a much-needed respite. “Tonight we’re not just moms, we’re girls and we get to have fun,” she said. “I hope they do this every year.”
Representatives from the local deal site Mom.com, part of CafeMom, were an integral part of the evening’s festivities. Mom.com rep Kathleen Good grew up in Millburn. She reminisced about the floods on the old bridge and the recent devastation caused by Hurricane Irene. “This is a great opportunity for us to meet people and to support local merchants,” she said. “It’s wonderful so many people came out and that some of the money raised will go toward the Hurricane Relief Fund.”
CafeMom co-founder Andrew Shue made an appearance at Seed 237, where he snacked on sushi and chatted with residents. Shue is known for his role as Billy Campbell on Melrose Place.
Business owners were thrilled with the evening’s turnout. “I am pleasantly surprised by how many people have come by tonight,” said Gito owner Renee Mayronne. Gito’s presented champagne and cheese to customers and offered $50 off a $100 purchase.
Red Carpet Boutique owner Gina Colabelli, a member of Downtown Millburn, expressed her delight with the event's success. “We are very excited about the turnout,” she said. “It is tremendous and people have been very receptive.”
Red Carpet Boutique offered 25 percent off jewelry and accessories, 10 percent off dresses and held a dress giveaway. The boutique also hosted DeVenir Beauty, who provided 50 percent off all makeup and hair. Red Carpet will move to the current location of Pierre Deux in late summer, early spring of 2012, Colabelli said.
Investors Savings Bank manager Donald O’Dea called the Girls Night Out a “beautiful, blow-out event.” Investors Savings Bank proudly sponsored the successful event.
“Tonight was stellar, stunning. Even with the weather, so many wonderful women came out,” Contessa Designs owner Mario Verrico said. “It was fabulous and decadent-- such a great boost for retail in this economy. I think this is the best thing Millburn has ever done.
