SUMMIT, NJ - The public is invited to celebrate SAGE’s 60th Anniversary on March 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.  The free event, which will take place at 290 Broad Street, will include activities for individuals of all ages.

“We have been helping older adults and their caregivers remain a part of the communities in which they live for the past 60 years and we are so proud that we can take a day to celebrate with the community-at-large,” stated Jessica Rosenzweig Gruber, Executive Director of SAGE Eldercare.

The event is scheduled to include:

  • Sensitivity training for families to help understand certain physical limitations associated with aging;
  • Fire safety tips from the Summit Fire Department;
  • Police safety tips from the Summit Police Department;
  • Health screenings for blood pressure and diabetes by Overlook Medical Center Community Health Department;
  • Crafts for all ages;
  • Bake sale to benefit SAGE’s programs and services;
  • Chair Massages from Atlantic Health Care Integrative Medicine Department;
  • Putting together shelf-stable brown bags for Bridges Outreach;
  • Cooking demonstration from the ShopRite of Chatham at 10 am;
  • Book signing of “Summit Historic Homes,” written by Cindy Martin, Summit Historical Society Trustee at 11 am;
  • Tai Chi demonstration at 12 pm;
  • SAGE’s 60th Anniversary contest winners announced at 1 pm;
  • And more!

Attendees are also being encouraged to bring in a new pair of adult men’s socks or underwear (large size and bigger, please), which will be donated with the shelf-stable food bags for Bridges Outreach, an organization that provides food and necessities to those in need in Newark, Irvington and New York City.

“SAGE has had the support of many people in Essex, Morris, Union, Somerset Counties, and beyond for the past six decades,” noted Gruber.  “Through our programs and services, we’ve been able to add to the quality of life for older adults so they can maintain the most independent active lives possible and remain in the communities that they have grown to love.  We feel fortunate that we can hold this community event to celebrate these achievements and look to the future in continuing our mission.”
