Hybrid Class Offerings Start with Summer Sessions 2014

RANDOLPH, NJ — Teachers looking to be certified to teach mathematics at the middle school level now have a more affordable option for meeting New Jersey’s subject matter preparation requirements.

Starting with its first Summer Sessions offering, which begins May 19, County College of Morris (CCM) will be offering a Middle School Mathematics Endorsement program for teachers. CCM is the first community college in New Jersey to offer the program so teachers can acquire the 15 subject matter credits they need to gain state certification as middle school mathematics instructors.

The classes are being offered as hybrid courses, meaning they take place as a mix of online and in-class instruction. The classes are taught by experienced college math professors who also are certified as high school math teachers.

Classes being offered through the program include Numbers and Operations for Middle Grades, Algebra for Middle Grades, Mathematics for Middle Grades, Statistics for Middle Grades and Geometry for Middle Grades.

Along with gaining the necessary credits in math, teachers must pass the Praxis II middle grade mathematics test and complete a course in adolescent psychology. For the latest information regarding state certification, consult the New Jersey Department of Education.

For more information on the Middle School Mathematics Endorsement Program at CCM, contact Professor Deanne Stigliano at dstigliano@ccm.edu or973-328-5706.
