CCM Employee Leadership Club Reaches Out to Area Residents
Creating Wreaths and Other Decorations to Brighten Lives

RANDOLPH, NJ — Formed in 2012 to establish an even stronger connection between County  College of Morris (CCM) employees and the community, the Creative Leadership Club (CLC) already has two projects under its belt this fall, with two more planned for the year.  First, the group of employees designed and created a total of 10 fall grapevine wreaths for families to decorate their homes built by Morris Habitat for Humanity. Next, they created more than 150 fall napkin decorations to grace the meal trays delivered by the Morris County Nutrition Program, formerly known as Meals for Wheels.

Edie Nelson of Byram Township, an Educational Opportunity Fund Counselor at CCM, explains that a group of employees at the college decided to form the club to focus on creating practical handmade crafts for nonprofits and military personnel. That motivation came from their experiences as participants in CCM’s 2011 Leadership Academy. The mission of the Leadership Academy is to assist college employees with enhancing their professional skills, gaining a deeper insight into the activities of the college, and forging stronger connections with one another and the community.

CLC now consists of 27 CCM employees. Since its formation, the group has decorated pillowcases for soldiers overseas, designed aprons for the children at Head Start of Dover, created tote bags and journals for the clients of The Women’s Center, housed at CCM, and designed spring wreaths for the homes of Morris Habitat for Humanity families.

Club members meet usually once a month during their lunch time. For their next set of projects, they are putting together mini-notebooks with patterned Duck Tape covers and holiday earrings for the residents of an area group home.
