Carjacking and Thefts Top West Orange Police Blotter News for August 5-12

WEST ORANGE, NJ - Thefts and a carjacking top the Police Blotter News for Aug. 5-12.
Theft: A storm drain cover was removed from the parking lot area of 386 Valley Road, Primary Medical Care.
Theft: A red go cart with a Briggs and Stratton engine and a Gray Huffy BMX bicycle were stolen from a yard on Swaine Place. Total value is estimated at $1,200.
Theft of Property: A report of stolen Wells Fargo gift cards in the amount of $50 were reported from a medical building at 412 Pleasant Valley Way, though the thefts actually occurred on or around July 10. Wells Fargo informed one party that their stolen card was spent at the CVS on Eagle Rock Avenue. A police report was necessary to view surveillance footage at the CVS, which would be available through Aug. 11.
Armed Robbery: Victim reported being held up with a glock .45 handgun by three black males in a dark Acura at Condit Lane and Washington Street around 6:20 p.m. His wallet and iPhone5 were taken. He did not report the crime at the time but did report the incident to police the following day, indicating that he recognized the driver of the vehicle and that someone returned his wallet to him as he headed to the police station to report the crime.
Graffiti: Stop signs and a transformer at Eagle Ridge Villas on Leonardo Drive were marked up with the word “snitchin” with what appeared to be black marker , along with other unlegible wording. The transformer box had the name “Simon” on it. The items were replaced.
Theft: The JCC on Northfield Avenue reported the theft of a wallet from a member’s locker in the men’s locker room, and $35 in cash removed. The locker had been pried open.

Disorderly Conduct/Arrest: Nico Chase, 18, of West Orange, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after police responded to noise complaints on Prospect Place. The suspect spewed obscenities at the officers and telling them to keep off his property. Police asked him to remain quiet and he instead lunged at them, and was arrested.
Theft: A victim reported her residence at 787 Northfield Ave. (Stratford Manor) was broken in to and her iPhone 4S taken. Resident believed a staff member was responsible.
Theft: A homeowner reported the theft of jewelry and place settings totaling $4,600 and accused her housekeeper/babysitter, who denied the charges.
Theft: Homeowner on Lawrence Avenue reported the theft of $22,300 in jewelry from her upstairs drawer and indicated to police that three Hispanic males had been in her residence cleaning windows on June 29.
Graffiti: More signage was discovered damaged by graffiti by what appeared to be a black marker at the Eagle Ridge Villas on Leonardo Drive.

Trespass/Criminal Mischief: Drunken vandals apparently threw pool furniture into a pool on Barringer Place.
