LIVINGSTON, NJ - CareOne rolled out a VIP Introduction to its new memory care programs at Harmony Village and Versailles on Tuesday.

Friends and business associates of CareOne were invited to see how the new specialized programs enhance the continuum of care offered at the CareOne Campus for individuals with Dementia/Alzheimers. Guests enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeurves at Harmony Village and desserts at Versailles.

Director of Community Relations Leslie Highleyman, who organized the VIP introduction, said, “It is important to introduce people to the concept of memory care and the extraordinary services we provide to best serve our residents.”

Mayor Michael Rieber of Livingston attended the event and officiated at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. “What CareOne does for our seniors and our seniors in need of assistance is invaluable," Rieber said. "The many aspects of care they provide are very important.  We have a growing population base of elderly citizens. CareOne benefits Livingston and their residents.”

Candy Blau, regional director of Sales and Marketing for Freedom Home Healthcare, was a guest at the event.  Her company provides one-on-one services for CareOne and the people in their community. “The new memory care programs will ultimately make people much more comfortable,” Blau said.

Darren Seise is the regional director of Assisted Living for CareOne. With an impressive career spanning more than 15 years in assisted living, he expressed his pride in the new memory care programs and the benefits they offer.  He pointed out the CareOne in Livingston has two very distinctive “neighborhoods.”

“Harmony Village serves individuals needing early to middle stages of memory care, while Versailles patient care serves those who have middle to late stages of memory car,”  Seise said. “While people in early stages can be challenged with cognitive activities and games, the later stages utilize sensory stimulation and conversation to improve memory care.”

“There is still a stigma around dementia, making people reluctant to seek the appropriate treatment,” Seise said. On a personal note, he said that he has successfully helped his own family members to move into assisted living and is proud of the successful life-style it offers. Seise also said the CareOne community enables individuals and couples to enjoy their time without concerns about the future.

The software program “My Vigorous Mind” is being implemented as part of the memory care programs. It has a broad range of group activities and individual activities that help seniors stay sharp through brain exercise and stimulation. The program also has tools to connect senior patients with family and friends through video conferencing and email. “My Vigorous Mind” also generates informative reports to monitor usage and progress of the seniors.

Jennifer Barbieri, the Harmony Village program director for the new memory care program, has full confidence in the program and is pleased with its implementation.

“We have managers who are familiar with our residents and we know each and every one of them," Barbieri said. "Our social model promotes and maintains their independence, just like they are living in their own homes.”

The newly redesigned neighborhood features program amenities like the “My Vigorous Mind” Brain Wellness and Social Networking Platform, Horticulture, Pet Therapy, Dance Therapy, Yoga, Tai Chi, Music Therapy and Art Therapy.  The neighborhood promotes wellness and Care Managers are specifically trained to work with people experiencing memory issues. They promote social wellness and independence while recognizing the uniqueness of each resident.  Accommodations include private studios, one-bedroom deluxe and shared.  Their comprehensive program is tailored to meet individual needs.
