Career Clothing Drive to Be Held for The Covenant House

LIVINGSTON, NJ - A Career Clothing Drive, co-sponsored by the Livingston Youth and Community Services (LYCS) Leaders, Heritage Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Leaders, Mount Pleasant Middle School Student Council and the Livingston High School Key Club is being held from March 31—April 11, for The Covenant House in Newark, NJ, a non-profit organization that has been helping “at risk” and homeless children with outreach and advocacy services since 1989. It helps youths develop their potentials as leaders and positive role models within their communities. For more information, call 973-931-8863.

The public is invited to donate any size dress clothes including: suits, dress shirts, blazers, dress pants, belts, ties, overcoats, briefcases, portfolios, tie clips and cufflinks.

Drop boxes are located at several locations in town including: Mount Pleasant Middle School, Heritage Middle School, Livingston High School, Town hall and the Senior Community Center (levels 1 and 2).

According to the Covenant House website, each year in the U.S. alone, as many as 2 million youth experience a period of homelessness, and every year more than 5,000 of these young people lose their lives to the streets.

Covenant House helps at risk and homeless youths stop using drugs, move into their own apartments, and step up to their parenting responsibilities, when needed. The organization also helps clients get their GEDs, go to college, work toward construction certifications and find and maintain employment.

In addition, Covenant House helps participants gain access to medical services and spiritual guidance. It also supports young people in civil legal matters, including immigration, housing and public benefits. And, Covenant House attorneys are advocates for youth in the criminal justice system.
