PATERSON, NJ - An attempt to carjack a city taxi failed on Tuesday when the suspect ended up in a crash with two other vehicles on 10th Avenue, policed said.
The victim, a 56-year-old driver with Excellent Transport told police he picked up a fare at Summer Street and 21st Avenue at about 5 pm. The passenger first asked to be taken to the Riverside Homes on 5th Avenue, but then changed his mind and said he wanted to be taken to E.26th Street and 3rd Avenue, police said.
When near that destination, the suspect pulled a gun and demanded the driver's money and the cab, according to Lt. Richard Reyes. The suspect sped away south on E.26th Street, Reyes said.
But he ended up crashing the cab near 372 10th Avenue and fled the scene on foot, Reyes said.
