SHORT HILLS, NJ – For the third year in a row, CAN DO Fitness has partnered with the March of Dimes for "Corks and Forks," an evening of fun, food, wine and fundraising. Club members and non-members alike gathered at the club to raise a glass and raise awareness of the work being done by the March of Dimes to improve the health of babies.

The evening featured food provided by Benihana and La Strada, and dessert by La Pergola.

“This year we have expanded our partnership with the March of Dimes to all three of our clubs,” said Can Do Fitness marketing director Maggie Stevens. “We support the March of Dimes, which is a wonderful organization, and a night like this helps our members to learn more about it, and hopefully gets them behind the cause.”

A silent auction was held, with numerous prizes from local merchants, including Paper Mill Playhouse, Linda’s Florist, Walter Bauman Jewelry, Marano Eye Care, Charlie Brown’s Restaurant, and Bonnie Jennifer Jewelry.

“This year marks the 75th anniversary of the March of Dimes,” said New Jersey state director Addy Bonet. “In our state, 11.5 percent of babies are born prematurely.  While that number is dropping, we still have work to do.  Infant mortality and premature births are still a huge health issue.  We are grateful to Can Do Fitness for helping us.”

The March of Dimes was founded originally to fight polio.  It is the rare charity to have won its battle and eradicated a disease.  Rather than disband, it refocused on a new mission and is as vital as ever.

“We hold many events throughout the state,” said Kitara Garner of the March of Dimes. “Look for our two Signature Chefs Events, which are our largest fund-raisers of the year.  Having local events like the one tonight are great for us to spread awareness of the mission, and we thank Can Do Fitness for being such strong supporters.”

Can Do Fitness is located at 750 Morris Turnpike, Short Hills, (973) 218-9100, www.candofitness.com
