Calling all Older Adults to Get Connected with Your Community
Thursday, October 17, 2013 • 1:54pm
On Monday, November 4 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, a program aimed at older adults and caregivers on “How to Avoid Social Isolation and Stay Connected,” will take place at SAGE Eldercare, 290 Broad Street, Summit.
“Older adults are more susceptible to social isolation because of increasing life-changing transitions,” stated Julie Reich, LSW, SAGE Eldercare Director of Special Programs. “Social isolation can impact negatively upon physical and emotional health. The good news is that there are many ways for seniors to ‘step out of their comfort zone’ to feel connected and reengage.”
Join Ms. Reich, along with SAGE’s GPS (Guidance, Planning & Support) Services Care Navigators, Kathy Bassiacos, RN, BSN, and Pat Stelmach, RN, M.Ed., as they provide resources that are available to older adults in local communities surrounding Summit to help circumvent isolation.
To register for the November 4 program, which is free and open to the public, please call 908.598.5548 or email email@example.com.
SAGE Eldercare is a unique community resource that offers a comprehensive array of programs and services for older adults and caregivers, promoting independence and quality of life. Founded in 1954, SAGE is one of the few non-profit eldercare agencies in the United States, and the oldest in New Jersey, that offers a broad and comprehensive array of services under one roof that assist elderly, often frail, adults to remain independent in their own homes.
Programs at SAGE Eldercare include: HomeCare; Meals On Wheels; Spend-A-Day Adult Day Health Center; GPS (Guidance, Planning and Support) Services; InfoCare free information and referral service; Fall Prevention Initiative; Home Repair Service; Grocery Shopping and Errand Service; Bill Paying Service; Holistic Living Services; Alzheimer’s and PREP caregiver support groups; Community Education; and Union County Medicare SHIP (State Health Insurance Assistance Program). In addition, SAGE has operated a Furniture Restoration Workshop, run by volunteers who specialize in caning and rushing chairs and refinishing furniture, and a Resale Shop for more than 50 years.
