Saturday, April 12, 2014 • 2:50pm

Gallery U in Westfield is celebrating the artistic talents of local high school students with a special exhibition in June 2014 called “Student Life” that will feature the artwork of high school students from Union and Essex Counties. We are seeking artwork of all mediums and styles.

This event will serve as a fundraiser for local high school art departments. For each piece that sells during the exhibition, 50% of the retail price will be paid to the artist and the remaining 50% will be donated to the art department of the school that artist represents.

An opening reception is scheduled for June 5, 2014 and will be open to the public. For submission guidelines and more information, please visit: http://gallery-u.blogspot.com/p/artsist-submission-guidelines-for.html. SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS May 12, 2014.

To further celebrate the creative talents of high school students, Gallery U will be highlighting the literary achievements of Union and Essex County high school students in June at our monthly reading series Poetry U.  This public reading is scheduled for June 26. Students who are poets and/or creative writers and are interested in participating in the event should send two sample writings to Robert Langdon at rlangdongalleryu@gmail.com.

Gallery U Boutique is an extension of Universal Institute, a rehabilitation facility that services adults with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). The venue serves as a vocational training program whose goal is to introduce people with TBI back into the work force and community. Clients at Universal Institute take part in all aspects of running Gallery U Boutique. Vocational, occupational and cognitive therapies are conducted in our workrooms. Working at Gallery U Boutique provides an opportunity for our TBI clients to rejoin the workforce, engage with the community, learn new skills, and experience the transformative power of art through exposure to existing art and creation of their own artwork.
