By popular demand, the annual cabaret fundraiser “October Surprise” returns to First Congregational Church (FCC) on Saturday, October 19, at 7 pm in the church’s Patton Auditorium at 125 Elmer Street in Westfield. The evening features a lively revue of show tunes and comedy under the direction of award-winning cabaret pianist Joe Regan. Desserts and coffee are served. This event is free and open to the public.
Acclaimed actress, singer and songwriter Elaine Brier, known for her comedic songs, will once again share the stage with Mr. Regan. Joining them are professional actors Michael Dundon and Peter Cummings, and Alison Nead, (choir director of First Presbyterian Church of Cranford). Rounding out the cast are several outstanding singers from the congregation
Joe Regan, FCC assistant director of music, is a professional pianist/singer who performs at piano bars and private events throughout the New York area. He can currently be seen at “Don’t Tell Mama” in Manhattan and on weekends at 16 Prospect Wine Bar in Westfield. He is the recipient of a 2007 MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets) Award for Best Revue for “Johnny Mercer Sings.
“This year’s revue promises to be a true ‘October Surprise’ with favorites from Broadway, pop, rock and roll, Country, American Standards, and oldies,” said Mr. Regan. Comedy numbers, sing-a-longs and audience requests will fill out the revue. First hosted by the FCC in 2003, “October Surprise” has become an eagerly-awaited annual event. Admission is free and raffle tickets will be sold for a chance to win several gift baskets assembled around such themes as chocolate-lovers, Disney, and Jersey shore. All proceeds benefit the church’s various ministries. Seating is limited and reservations are suggested.
