Burglary and Shoplifting in Short Hills

MILLBURN, NJ – The following items were reported by the Millburn Police Department:
On Friday, Oct. 4, Officer Christopher DeRosa responded to the Apple Store located at the Short Hills Mall on a report that Apple security had a shoplifter in custody for concealing $279 wireless headphones inside of a shopping bag. Officer DeRosa recognized the suspect, Rafael Cuevas, 50, who is unemployed and resides in Newark, as the person who committed another shoplifting at the Georgio Armani store on Sept. 28. Cuevas was placed under arrest and charged with both instances of shoplifting. Cuevas was released pending his court date in Newark.
On Oct. 4, Officer Peter Smeraldo responded to ShopRite, 220 Main St., on a report that their security officer had a person in custody for concealing ten packages of Advil worth $37, on his person. Officer placed Frank Wiley, 39, of Irvington, under arrest and charged him with shoplifting. Wiley was released pending a Millburn Municipal Court hearing.
On Oct. 5, Officer Peter Smeraldo responded to Saks Fifth Avenue at the Short Hills Mall on a report that Saks security had a shoplifter in custody. Officer Smeraldo’s investigation revealed that Maria Amorim, 46, a teacher from Annandale, concealed two articles of clothing worth $356 on her person and exited the store without making payment. Amorim was placed under arrest, charged with shoplifting and released pending CJP court date in Newark.
On Oct. 5, Officer Michael Lanni conducted a motor vehicle stop in the area of Morris Turnpike and Cleveland Place for a person driving while using his cellular phone. Further investigation revealed that Scott Manhoff, 58, a realtor from Olney, Md., was in possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana. Manhoff was placed under arrest and charged with Use of a Handheld Wireless Device, Possession of CDS in a motor vehicle, Possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Manhoff was released pending appearance in Millburn Municipal Court.
On October 5, officers responded to a Sagamore Road residence after the homeowner reported a Burglary upon returning home. The burglary occurred that evening between 7:30 p.m. and 11 p.m. while the residents were out. Investigation revealed that an unknown person(s) rifled through the master bedroom. It is unknown what was stolen at this time.
