BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Since 2010, Boy Scout Troop 68 of Berkeley Heights has run a toy drive to benefit the underprivileged children of the Genoa, W.V. area, in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, one of the poorest regions of the United States. It is typical for people that live there to not have indoor plumbing and electricity.

The only gifts that many of the children of this area receive each year are the ones provided at the annual Christmas party run by the Sisters of Charity.

This year, we are receiving tremendous support from other scouting organizations, such as the Berkeley Heights Girl Scouts, Cub Scout Pack 268 from Hughes School, Cub Scout Pack 368 from Mountain Park School and Cub Scout Pack 99 from Our Lady of Peace in New Providence.  The Muhlenberg College Girls Lacrosse team along with other students at the school is contributing to our troop efforts with this drive.

We have also received a generous donation from toy the distributor, International Playthings, LLC, who over the course of its 45-year existence, has grown to become one of the largest and most respected suppliers of quality products to the North American specialty industry.

We are accepting individual donations of new unwrapped toys at our next two troop meetings on Monday December 9th and Monday December 16th.  Our meetings are held at the Mary K. McMillin Early Learning Center and start at 7:30 pm.

Most of the toys we have collected in the past cost between $15 and $30.  If you would like to donate a toy we would really appreciate your help.
