No matter the time you decide to visit Bovella's Pastry Shoppe, be advised you’re going to share space with others, who are there for many of the same reasons. First off: To select the perfect dessert for any and all occasions; Second: To order a specialty cake or dessert.
Be advised Proprietor and supreme Baker Ralph Bencivenga and his creative staff are filled with the most innovative ideas for the perfect cake, and assorted confections for each and every occasion.
Should your sons be madly in love with trucks or skateboards, Ralph and his team will present you with a perfect celebration cake fashioned in the shape of the most perfect truck. Ditto for your soccer and hockey players. Nothing is ever too large or too difficult for this creative Master of Baking to achieve.
It all began when proprietor Ralph Bencivenga was a student at Westfield High School. In search of after school employment, Ralph took a job working for Bovella’s orignial owner, Michael Bove, where he not only assisted with the baking, he spent hours washing dishes.
At that time, he’d leave school every afternoon, and walk to Bovella’s Pastry Shoppe located on the corner of East Broad and Prospect Street in Westfield.
Not only did Ralph spend hours washing dishes, he did his best to learn all he could about the fine art of baking. An eager and respectful student, Michael Bove taught him all that he knew about specialty baking to perfection. Those of us that know Ralph Bencivenga know that he puts his heart and soul into every one of his delightful confections.
Upon Bove’s death in 2008, Bencivenga quietly turned his neighborhood bakery into a European style cafe. Visitors entering are welcome to sit and relax with a cup of coffee, espresso, or gelato. Customers are also encouraged to consult with Ralph about custom and wedding, birthday, corporate, and any occasion specialty cakes baked to order.
But, before you leave, be sure to pick up a selection of delicious pastries, designer cookies, eclairs, linzertortes, brownies, fruit bars, pignoli nut cookies, (The Italian and French words respectively for pine nuts), or the most delicious Red Velvet cake, or the cake of your dreams, that is baked on the premises, and suitable for any and all occasions.
FYI: Please remember the Jewish New Year and the start of Rosh Hashanah starts early this year. Everything sold at Bovella’s Pastry Shoppe is Kosher under the Rabbinical Supervision of Rabbi Issiah Hertzberg.
