SUMMIT, NJ - On the road, under the lights, and coming off an extra-time loss in a match that they led twice, the Summit boys varsity soccer team responded with a solid effort, beating A.L. Johnson of Clark, 2-0.
Second-half goals from Eric Reyes, in the 74th minute, and Darryl Martins, four minutes from time, earned the Hilltoppers the victory and raised their season record to 3-4-2.
Reyes, taking a lofted, 25-yard pass from Jack McCarthy, beat the goalkeeper to the ball, and with a defender on his hip, lifted the ball over the 'keeper for a 1-0 lead. As the clock wound down, left-back James Strabley linked up with James Holzer whose cross found Martins for a crisp finish that sealed the match.
Alex Daduorian kept a clean sheet in the Summit goal. The Hilltoppers next travel to Plainfield, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m.
