Borgata to host 200 Club brunch’

Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and The 200 Club of Atlantic and Cape May Counties announced today that it will host the 29th Annual Cape/Atlantic Memorial Service and Brunch honoring police-fire-rescue personnel who have died in the line of duty on Sunday, March 16th, 2014, at noon at Borgata’s Event Center.
The keynote speaker will be Captain Raymond Dupuis, Commander of Field Operations for the Watertown, MA Police Department, a city which, on April 19th, 2013, was the site of a manhunt for Boston Marathon bombing suspects Dzhokhar Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan. While Watertown was under lockdown, thousands of law enforcement officers flooded the town of 33,000 residents and searched a 20-block area for the surviving brother (Dzhohar). Captain Dupuis will talk about the impact that the incident had on the Public Safety officers in his community.
The 200 Club was founded to support members of the Public Safety Community --- Police, Fire and Emergency Services personnel--- and their survivors, when they experience a line-of-duty death. The Atlantic and Cape May County-based Club held its first annual Memorial Service and Brunch in February of 1986 as a mechanism to honor the local victims of line-of-duty death, and also as a fundraiser to enable the Club to support and assist the survivors.
Preceding the brunch, the public is welcome to attend a Memorial Mass (also an annual event) at 10:30 a.m. at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, Tennessee and Pacific Avenue, in Atlantic City. The principal celebrant will be Rev. Msgr. William A. Hodge, a long-time supporter of the law enforcement and emergency services community. Touches of pageantry at the Church will include the Knights of Columbus, Pipe and Drum Bands and a combined Honor Guard of the New Jersey State Police and Atlantic City Police departments.
The 200 Club will also award $37,500 in higher education scholarships to the children of active-duty, retired, disabled or deceased Police, Fire or Rescue Personnel who work in Atlantic or Cape May County. The battle of the beaches resumes with the return of the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) Top Ten Beaches survey. The Wildwoods are looking to once again win the title of Best Beach in New Jersey.
The Wildwoods have won the survey four times since its inception, in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2012.The Wildwoods’ beaches were also named “Best Beach for Family Vacations,” “Best Beach for Tourism,” “Best Beach for Events,” “Best Beach for Eco-Tourism” and “Best Beach for Day Trips” in the same surveys. (Due to Superstorm Sandy, the NJSGC did not hold the survey in 2013.)

Whoopi Goldberg, known around the world for her acclaimed work as performer, producer, author and humanitarian, will take the stage at Revel’s Ovation Hall on Saturday, April 5, at 8 p.m.
