Missed a new movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay for the DVD? Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library. It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost. We are showing brand new releases every Monday night at 6:30pm. We will be providing popcorn for all who attend. The movie this week is the third superhero adventure starring billionaire Tony Stark and his famous suit. For a list of upcoming movies, stop by the library and pick up a schedule.
The Friends of the South Plainfield Library are planning to hold a book and bake sale on October 19th from 9am to 3pm and they are accepting donations, which can be dropped off at the library. They will accept books, DVDs and CDs. The Friends will NOT take textbooks, magazines, encyclopedias or VHS tapes. The books, CDs, and DVDs have to be in good condition: for books (no water damage, not dirty, dusty or yellowed), for DVDs/CDs (no scratches or cracks). If you would like to sign up to bring a baked good or you have any questions, please call or stop by the library.
The Library has started 3 book clubs for adults who are interested in reading and discussing books. We have a Tuesday afternoon group that meets at 4pm. The next meeting is going to be on October 15th, where they will be discussing Cutting for Stone by Abraham Verghese. There is also Thursday evening book club. The next meeting of this group is on October 24th at 7pm where the group will be discussing Probable Future by Alice Hoffman. Our brand new book club for the fall is our Mystery Book Club. The next meeting of the South Plainfield Mystery Book Club will be on Wednesday October 16th at 4pm. The book that they will be discussing is The Mother Hunt by Rex Stout. The Tuesday afternoon and Thursday evening book clubs have their books selected through 2013 and into 2014. Stop by and pick up a schedule of the books being discussed. If you are interested in attending any of these book clubs and need a copy of the book that is being discussed stop by the library.
Are you tired, stressed and just can’t relax? If you feel like this, come to the South Plainfield Senior Center on Thursday October 3rd at 7pm where you will learn about meditation and yoga for relaxation. Yoga instructor Cristine Iannitto-Cancela will be presenting a program on meditation and yoga which will include a session where participants will try yoga positions while seated on a chair. This is a program geared for people who do not have any prior experience doing yoga. This program is presented free, but registration is required. This program is limited to 20 people, so if you would like to come, call or stop by the library to register.
On Thursday October 17th at 6:30pm, pumpkin painting is back at the library! Come and paint spooky and silly pumpkins for Halloween. All you have to do is bring your own pumpkin and we will provide the rest. Children will be using paint, so please dress accordingly. This program is presented free of charge and there is no registration required.
We will be following our regular schedule for the children’s programs. The Storytime program for 2s & 3s is held Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10:30. Storytime for ages 3 and up is held Tuesday mornings at 10:30, Wednesday night at 6:30, and Thursday afternoon at 1:15. The Babytime program for ages up to 2 years is held Friday morning at 10:30. These programs do not require registration. Please try to get to the Storytime programs on time because it can get very disruptive for Miss Linda and Miss Mija and the children if people come in the middle of the program.
We are open 7 days a week except on holidays. Our hours are as follows: Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays we are open 10-9, Tuesdays and Fridays we are open 10-6, Saturdays 9-5 and Sundays 1:30-5
