Well, the Reading Club is finishing up, people are stocking up on Back to School items, and stores are setting up their Halloween displays.  That would seem to indicate that summer is over.  Well, not quite.  There are still a couple of weeks to go, and you can spend some of that time at South Plainfield Library.  Here’s the latest Library news:

First, just a reminder that we’ll be closed on Monday, September 1st, for Labor Day.  Also, we’ll be closed on Sundays for another few weeks.  Open Sundays will be back on Sunday, September 14th.

Not much to report as far as children’s activities are concerned.  Our kids’ programs are on hiatus until Tuesday, September 16th.  Director Linda and Miss Mija needed a break, and so did the rest of us, too.  However, the Children’s Room is still open, so feel free to bring your kids over, if only to say hello.

Our next “Monday Night Movie” is this coming Monday night, of course.  Please note that it starts early, at 6:15PM.  It’s being presented free of charge; you don’t need to pre-register.  Please call us for information about the movie’s title and content.  We can say it’s a sequel featuring one of the many, many Marvel superheroes in the movies, lately.  This one features the insect-based hero.  (And, no, we’re not talking about Ant-Man.  His movie hasn’t been made yet.)

As things are somewhat quiet at present, we have room for a couple of advisories.  First, a word about keeping our materials clean and intact.  We realize that we can’t expect our patrons to keep our materials in sterile conditions that would rival a hospital OR.  And we realize that accidents can happen to even the most careful people.  What we want to stress is that we check our stuff both when it’s borrowed and when it’s returned, especially the A/V items.  We make sure that items go out in good condition.  Once you remove them from the Library, you are responsible to keep them that way.  If you discover a problem with them, you are expected to let us know about it ASAP.  And, if you return it in a badly damaged condition, you may be required to make good on it, if necessary.  The best way to avoid trouble on this is to treat borrowed items as carefully as you can, and be sure to keep us informed of problems.  As always, we appreciate you help on this.

Next, a word from our Notary Public.  Frequently, patrons come in and ask our Notary to certify photocopies.  Unfortunately, New Jersey law prohibits him from doing this.  Instead, the way it works is that those wishing photocopies to be certified are required to write up a statement to the effect that they are swearing that the copies involved are genuine.  The Notary can then notarize that statement; under New Jersey law, this has the same effect as directly certifying a copy.  If you’re not sure if this is sufficient for what you need, it’s best to check on this with the other parties involved before you come in to see the Notary.

That’s about all for now.  As always, we’re very interested in your comments and questions.  Feel free to ask at the desk, and we’ll pass them along.  For more information, please call us at (908) 754-7885, or visit our website at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us.  You can also visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/southplainfieldlibrary.  See you next Friday.
