Missed a new movie you wanted to see in the theaters and don’t want to pay for the DVD?  Come to “Monday Night Movies” at the library.  It’s all the fun of a movie theater but none of the cost.  We are showing brand new releases every Monday night at 6:30pm.  We will be providing popcorn for all who attend.  The movie this week has the voice talents of Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig. In this movie, Steve Carell voices a former super-villain who is asked to try to save the world with the help of his yellow minion friends.

The library has special New Year’s Eve hours.  We will only be open from 9am-12:30pm on December 31st and will be closed on New Year’s Day.  We will reopen Thursday January 2nd at 10am.

The Library has started 3 book clubs for adults who are interested in reading and discussing books.  We have a Tuesday afternoon group that meets at 4pm.  The next meeting is going to be on January 14th, where they will be discussing For One More Day by Mitch Albom. There is also Thursday evening book club.  The next meeting will be on January 30th where they will be discussing Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.  Our brand new book club is our Mystery Book Club. The next meeting of the South Plainfield Mystery Book Club will be on Wednesday January 15th at 4pm.  The book that they will be discussing is Room No. 10 by Åke Edwardson.  If you are interested in attending any of these book clubs and need a copy of the book that is being discussed stop by the library.

On Saturday January 11th from 2-5pm, there will be a special program on the new Affordable Care Act.  There will be a person here who can answer any questions that you may have about the Affordable Health Care act.  This program is designed to help people figure out how to sign up for healthcare.

If you can’t get to the library because you are pregnant, don’t drive, or are ill, and still would like to be able to get library materials, then sign up for our homebound delivery service.  You call us to sign up and tell us what you would like to read and we will match you with a volunteer.  We will pick out books for you, check them out and then deliver them to your door.  When you are done the volunteer will pick them up and bring them back to the library along with any requests for other books.   If you have any questions about this service or want to sign up, please give us a call at 908-754-7885.

Popular magician Joe Fisher is back to entertain the children with a “Hocus Pocus” magic show.  Come to the Senior Center on Wednesday January 22nd at 6:30 and see what spectacular tricks he will perform.  There is no registration required for this program.  In lieu of an admission charge, we ask that families bring a non perishable food item for each person attending the program that will be donated to the South Plainfield Food Pantry.

All children’s programs are cancelled through January 6th.  They will resume on Tuesday January 7th at 10:30am.

To find out more, or if there’s any questions call (908) 754-7885, visit us on the web at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us or check out our Facebook page.
