Here’s the latest news from South Plainfield Library:
Turning to children’s programs, we’ve got a couple of special ones coming soon. First, don’t forget about the Holiday Sing-Along with Mr. Kurt on Wednesday, Dec. 4th, at 6:30PM. This program will be held down the street at the Senior Center, and is for children of all ages. You don’t have to pre-register, and we’ll be accepting non-perishable food items for the Middlesex County Community Food Drive in lieu of an admission fee.
Second, we’ve got a Holiday “Kidcraft” program set for Thursday, Dec. 12th, at 6:30PM. It’s also for children of all ages. Space is limited for this program, so you must call ahead to register. There’s a $1.00 materials fee, payable upon registration.
The next meeting of the Library Board of Trustees is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 10th, at 7PM. Members of the public are invited to attend and learn more about the Library’s current and future plans. There will be a public comment time mid-way through the meeting, before new business is addressed. No pre-registration is required.
And here’s some advance word regarding our schedule during the Holidays. We’ll be closed on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We’ll have shortened hours on New Year’s Eve (9AM-12:30PM), and be closed on New Year’s Day. We have decided to remain open on Festivus.
Please don’t forget to give what you can to the charity drives currently collecting at the Library. Once again, they include the Wish Tree from the Library & the South Plainfield Social Services Dept., “Books to Keep” from the Libraries of Middlesex, the Middlesex County Community Food Drive, the eyeglasses/hearing aids drop for the Lion’s Club, the pull tab collection for Ronald McDonald House Charities, and the coin drops for the Literacy Programs of NJ and the South Plainfield Summer Drama Workshop.
With the weather starting to get colder (and actually remain colder for now), our patrons are stocking up even more than usual on items from our DVD collection. While you’re browsing through our selection of feature films and TV shows, you might want to look at our selection of non-fiction DVDs. In that section, you can find discs on health & fitness, travel & leisure, education, and world, national & local history. Feel free to check one of them out.
We’ll close this time with an explanation. You may have noticed that, when we publicize our “Monday Night Movie” presentation, we either don’t mention the movie titles at all, or use roundabout descriptions (like, for an upcoming feature, “It’s that latest Marvel movie with Hugh Jackman and not Robert Downey, Jr. or Loki.”). That’s not because we’re trying to be secretive or to test you. You see, in order to show these movies without getting in trouble with the entertainment mega-corps, we enter into an agreement with the Motion Picture Licensing Corporation and pay an annual fee for performance rights. One of the conditions of that agreement is that we can’t publicize which movie we’re showing. We can tell you what it is, and we can post it in the building, but we can’t put it in the papers or on-line. We realize that it may seem somewhat complicated, but those are the terms we’ve agreed to. And, since it allows us to show you relatively recent, non-R rated movies, we figure it’s worth the hassle. As always, we appreciate your consideration on this.
That’s about it for now. If you’d like more information, please call us at (908) 754-7885, check our website at www.southplainfield.lib.nj.us or visit our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/southplainfieldlibrary. And we hope you’re having a happy & safe Holiday season.
