Pictured left to right are, Larry Engel, past President of the NJ BMW Club, Doug Feigel, Dr. Ross Karlin, Club Racing Chairman, Mark Carvalho of JMK BMW, Westlake School Principal Claudine Stryker, and Union County Educational Services Commission’s Superintendent, Terry Foppert. The check represented the combined donations of BMW Club member’s sponsorship from JMK BMW in Springfield, and proceeds of the Club’s June 2013 Club Race at NJ Motorsports Park’s Thunderbolt Raceway in Millville, NJ.
Each year, the BMW Car Club of NJ hosts Westlake School students during their annual Club Race. Upon arrival to the track, each student is greeted by excited race car drivers offering rides in their incredible race cars. The thrill of being a passenger is evidenced on the students’ faces as they enter the 14 turn racecourse. Students have their pictures taken, receive autographs from the drivers and watch several exciting races from prime vantage points.
The BMW Car Club has sponsored Westlake School for over 18 years by using profits from these races to provide donations which enable Westlake School to obtain specialized equipment and curricula for Westlake’s multiply disabled students. Westlake students will again attend the race as guests of the BMW Club in June 2014.
Westlake School is under the auspices of the Union County Educational Services Commission located at 45 Cardinal Drive in Westfield. For more information about our services go to www.ucesc.org.
