SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – The Scotch Plains Business and Professional Association sponsored a “Social Media” education night at the new BIGG Café on Thursday evening.

Proprietor Lisa Schiller welcomed the Association members into her newly renovated “Party” space and Café on the corner of Willow and East Second Street in Scotch Plains.

After everyone had time to mix, mingle and most importantly, partake of all the interesting things to eat and drink, BPA President Lisa Mohn called the meeting to order and introduced the three speakers.

Nikki Leske, of Stories and Savings, spoke first about the limitless possibilities on Facebook for businesses to promote themselves.  She also spoke about her own business.

“Stories and Savings is a Facebook only savings page that combines ongoing, sassy stories about fictional characters with great deals from local businesses,” said Leske.

Maria LaMorte-Wright of CMIT Solutions spoke about LinkedIn, the fourth most popular social networking site on the internet.  “This tool is really for the professional side of things – you won’t find any vacation pictures or stories about Grandma on LinikedIn.  This is where you post your resume and your professional credentials, and were colleges or customers can post recommendations.”

John Mandel, of JM Web Design, reminded business owners to “keep is simple” when it came to connecting social media to their website.  “In particular, when you direct them to your site for something specific, make sure they can find it!”

 “This was a really great event,” said BPA member Cyndy Losanno of Florence Ravioli, “and I can’t believe how Lisa has transformed this space!”
