The Township of Livingston will be celebrating the 200th anniversary of its founding on February 5, 2013. Livingston’s Bicentennial Historical sub-committee is seeking family trees, photographs, memorabilia, and living descendants of the founding fathers. If you have researched your family tree and would like to share it, you may contact the co-chairs of the genealogy sub-committee Renee Resky at firstname.lastname@example.org or (973) 992-5855 or Barbara Schaffer at email@example.com or (973) 994-3688. These trees and other documents will be exhibited at different venues in Livingston throughout the year.
The genealogy sub-committee has acquired and reviewed five historical documents to determine who the founding fathers were including an 1811 petition to the Legislature of New Jersey of the Inhabitants of Springfield and Caldwell Townships to form a new township, (what is now Livingston), Minutes of the first Town Meeting, and Property Tax Lists of 1813, 1814, and 1815. A condensed list of those people who appeared on all 5 documents was created and includes the founders with the last names of Baldwin, Beach, Burnet, Collins, Cook, Courter, Davison, Dickinson, Earl, Edwards, Ely, Force, Green, Harrison, Meeker, Morehouse, Morris, Reeves, Reynolds, Squier, Teed, Tichenor, Tompkins, Townley, Wade, Ward, Whitehead, and Williams. If you are a descendant of any of these families please contact Renee or Barbara by October 15.
