Berkeley Heights Police Arrest Newark Man for Drunk Driving

On Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2:26 am, Ptl. Ron DeSimoni arrested Kenneth W. Barnes, 44, of Newark. Barnes was the operator of a 2000 Kia and was stopped for erratic driving. A subsequent investigation revealed Barnes to be intoxicated at which time he was placed under arrest. Barnes was brought to police headquarters, processed and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane and careless driving. He was given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released into the custody of a friend.
On Saturday, February 23, 20134 at 9:36 am, Ptl. Nicholas Franks arrested Terrence Austin, 29, of South Plainfield. Austin was the operator of a 1994 Chevy truck and was stopped for a motor vehicle violation on Diamond Hill Road. A computer check revealed that he held an outstanding warrant out of Seaside Heights in the amount of $483.00 at which time he was placed under arrest and brought to police headquarters. Austin was processed and charged with having passenger plates on a commercial vehicle and was released after posting bail.
On Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at 20:11 pm, Ptl. Ron DeSimoni arrested Brain Wojcik, 36, of South Brunswick. Ptl. DeSimoni was called to a Springfield Avenue pharmacy to investigate a report of a shoplifting in which the suspect had fled the scene. While en route, Ptl. DeSimoni spotted Wojcik a short distance from the initial location of the shoplifting. Wojcik was placed under arrest and found to have stolen cold remedy products valued at $74.30. He was brought to police headquarters, was processed and was charged with shoplifting. Wojcik was given a date to appear in Berkeley Heights Municipal Court and released.
