On Sunday, May 4th I had the pleasure of attending the Benefit Concert for the Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery at the Sparta High School. Congratulations to Karen Scott for organizing such a wonderful event for such a worthwhile cause.
With Memorial Day around the corner the timing of this patriotic event could not have been more perfect. I wanted to share a few moments of the concert with the entire community.
The Sparta High School Band, directed by Mr. Andrew Lopez, marched in playing the "Armed Forces Salute". As each service song was played the veterans who served in that branch of our military were asked to stand. The audience applauded each group of veterans. I was grateful for that moment to say, "thank you".
The Reverend Brown Choir led by Mrs. Deborah O'Brien sang and danced their way into all of our hearts. Collin Tsay, a third grader, played the cello while the children sang "America, the Beautiful". Kristen Tsay accompanied the children on the violin for "A Child's Prayer".
Next we enjoyed the Pope John Choir directed by Mrs. Karen Scott. The music was carefully chosen and beautifully performed in the spirit of God and Country.
One solo was performed by Jonathan Scott. As Mr. Scott sang "God Bless America" the entire audience rose to join him in song.
The concert finished on a high note by merging the choirs to sing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic".
I would like to thank Karen Scott for organizing this thoroughly enjoyable event.
All of the children demonstrated great pride in our Country. I sincerely hope that this event becomes a proud tradition in Sparta.
If you would also like to support this grand effort for the Northern NJ Veterans Memorial Cemetery, there will be a Veterans Tribute and Fashion Show at the Sussex County Technical School on Thursday, May 22nd at 6:15pm
