BAPS Charity Holds Memorable Walkathon in Edison

EDISON, NJ - The 2014 BAPS Charity Walkathon was held on June 1 to raise money for the JFK Medical Center and American Cancer Society. Over 1000 participants of all ages wearing brown t-shirts walked for a 3 miles around the lake in Roosevelt Park. The walk began at 10 a.m. with a prayer for world peace and the ribbon cutting ceremony in the presence of P.P. Tyagvallabh Swami.

Many community and business leaders joined the walkathon to support this year’s theme “The Spirit of Service.” The notable dignitaries were Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey, Piscataway Mayor Brian Wahler, Middlesex County Freeholder Charles Tomaro, Indus American Bank C.F.O. John Thomas, JFK. Medical Center Executive VP/COO Scott Gebhard, American Cancer Society Community Event Specialist Lindsay Freeman and other business leaders.

“Thank you for the continual support. Because of donations such as today from BAPS, we are building a better and stronger community,” said Scott Gebhard while accepting the $2000 check on behalf of JFK.  “We are very pleased to receive this donation to better server our community.”

“I am thrilled to be here and proud to be part of the American Cancer Society that is saving lives for more than 100 years. An amazing community like BAPS charity helps us celebrate more birthdays,” said Lindsay Freeman while accepting the $1000 check on behalf of American Cancer Society. “I am looking forward to celebrate many more birthdays with the cancer survivors.”

“I am extremely pleased to join the BAPS community today and I am very happy to see such a great turnout for this walkathon,” said Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey while walking with the participants. “Edison is a great town because of such great communities supporting each others.”

The event was supported by many businesses as Grand Patrons, Platinum Patrons, Gold Patrons, and Silver Patrons. The Grand Patrons were Amishi & Kaushal Parikh, Hiral & Jital Parikh, Indus American Bank, Rati Patel & Parimal Patel, CFP-Professional Economic Growth Group, and Girish & Damini Soni.

BAPS Charities is a global charity active in nine countries across five continents.
