Bader Qarmout Announces Run For U.S. Senate
Tuesday, February 21, 2012 • 12:52pm
SPARTA, NJ – New Jersey residents traveled from as far as Cresskill, NJ and overflowed out of Homer’s Restaurant in Sparta, to attend the announcement event for Bader Qarmout’s run for U.S. Senate on Monday.
“Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Bader Qarmout, and I will be seeking the republican nomination for U.S. Senate,” the Sussex County resident told the crowd, who exploded into applauds.
Qarmout is a local business owner an adjunct college professor.
“We need to get rid of Bob Menendez,” Qarmout said. “Bob Menendez wants to turn this country into what his parents fled from, and I want to preserve it.”
Among items on Qarmout’s agenda are plans to repeal ObamaCare, and allow people to buy insurance across state lines to keep costs down.
“The best way to reduce prices is through direct competition,” Qarmout said.
Qarmout, an American of Jordanian descent is especially a proponent of immigration reform, and has created “The Qarmout Immigration Reform Plan”, an area he feels both the President and Menendez (D-NJ) sweep under the rug.
“Most Americans have no problems with legal immigrants,” Qarmout said. “The problems that most Americans have are with an unsecured border and criminal illegal aliens.”
“Many politicians have shied away from this because it’s easier to look away,” Qarmout continued. “We need courage, we need leadership, it’s time to seal the border.”
Qarmout’s plan calls for registration for illegal aliens and hefty fees, that can either be withheld or paid upfront, or in one lump sum of $10,000 and $1,000 per child.
“We need to solve this very serious problem,” Qarmout reiterated.
Qarmout expressed his other plans for reform: balancing the budget, job creation (allowing American companies to repatriate their foreign profits), energy independence (Qarmout supports the construction of the Keystone Pipeline), peace in the Middle East, especially Israel, overhauling federal assistance programs, amending the term limits (proposing two six year terms for the Senate, and six two year terms for the House), and changes in the Social Security system.
Behind Qarmout on his campaign banner were the mottos of “Faith”, “Family”, and “Country”. “I want to give my children the country my parents gave me,” is Qarmout’s main statement. A devout Christian, Qarmout’s pastor prayed at the beginning of the event, and, there was a solo rendition of “God Bless America” prior to Qarmout’s speech.
“He is a man of honor and respect, and he is my hero,” said Qarmout’s son, George. “He is a great father, and, he will make a great senator.”
Jeff Goyette of Wantage, part of “Bader’s Brigade”, the group assisting Qarmout with managing his campaign said, “My friend Bader is a true conservative, great Christian, and friend. We need to get off our butts and support him. I’m so tired of going to the polls on Election Day and holding my nose. These aren’t just campaign problems, this is what he’s going to do.”
“I truly believe we can solve any problem we want,” Qarmout said. “It’s hard to lift people up when our government keeps putting them down.”
Qarmout’s team is in the process of distributing petitions for signature for his run, in what the group describes as a grassroots effort.
“We are not an establishment campaign,” Qarmout said.
