Attempted Vehicle Break-Ins, Shoplifting and One Armed Robbery Top Police Blotter News for Sept. 24-29

WEST ORANGE, NJ - A break-in and attempted break-ins, shoplifting and one armed robbery top the Police Blotter News for September 24-29.

September 24

Prescription Fraud:  Another incidence of a fradulent prescription pickup occurred at the Eagle Rock CVS when an unknown female called him a prescription for Xanax and Codeine from a "Doctor's office" and the "patient" came up with a fradulent West Orange address.  The suspect came to pick up the prescription but fled before police could arrive.  

Theft of Bicycle: A homeowner reported the theft of a Huffy children's bicycle from their backyard on Prospect Place.

Burglary: 20.00 in loose change was reported stolen from the offices of the Ice Man on Columbia Street.

September 25

Burglary/Theft: A chain saw valued at $1,000 was reported stolen from a residence of Rock Spring Road.

Assist other agency: WOPD assisted ECSO with a robbery at McCloone's Boathouse. The victim reported he had exited his vehicle when two black males approached him and one hit him on the side of the head.  The fire department responded on scene to assist the victim after the suspects ran off.

September 26

Attempted Burglary to MV: The owner of a 2012 Hyundai Sonata reported to police that they observed a black male wearing a dark colored hood sweatshirt and green and blue striped shirt attempting to break into her vehicle in the Rite Aid parking lot on Main St.  using a rock.  He ran off when she asked him what he was doing. Victim says she had left her purse on the passenger seat and locked the vehicle to enter the store.

Attempted Burglary to MV: The owner of a 2003 BMW X5 reported the attempted burglary of her motor vehicle in the CVS parking lot on South Valley Road.  When she entered her vehicle she noticed the locking mechanism began to spin.  

Theft: A victim reported the theft of his wallet from his shopping cart at Shoprite when he was shopping in Aisle 14 and placed his wallet under some pineapples in his cart.

Shoplifting: B&B Liquors on Northfield Avenue reported the theft of a $65.00 bottle of Ciroc Redberry Vodka by two black males, one described as light-skinned, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt on his head, a grey sweater, blue jeans, and black sneakers, and the other, dark-skinned with shoulder length dreadlocks wearing a black jacket, green fatigue pants, and a black baseball cap with a "P" on the front. Surveillance footage is available.

Theft of License Plate:  The owner of a 1998 Ford reported the theft of a  Pennsylvania license plate from his vehicle.

Burglary/Theft from MV: The owner of a 2003 Nissan 350Z reported the theft of his wallet from his locked vehicle parked at the Montclair Country Club on Prospect Avenue.

September 27

Armed Robbery: A victime was robbed by two males, one with a silver handgun, while at the Delta Gas Station on Main Street in his 2002  Honda Accord. One suspect is described as a dark-skinned black male, 6'0, wearing a black/grey hooded shirt over his head and a while bandana over his face, and the other, a light-skinned black male, 5'9 with a black/grey hooded shirt over his head and a white bandana over his face. They robbed the vehicle owner of $400-500 in cash and fled into a white Honda Accord on Ashland Avenue. A witness provided additional details.

Suspicious Person/Warrant Arrest:  

Derek Moore, 43, of Newark, was arrested after the Valley Road CVS reported him acting suspiciously.  A record check revealed Moore had outstanding warrants in Belleville and Bloomfield for a total of $3,000.00.  He was taken in custody and transported to headquarters without incident.

September 29

DWI Arrest: Juan Garcia Medina, 25, was arrested for revving his engine and 'burning out' of Las Palmeras parking lot on Valley Road.  After being stopped by police, they determined Medina appeared to be inebriated and he was subsequently arrested.

Criminal Mischief to Motor Vehicle: The owner of a 2013 BMW 528I reported that her roof was damaged by an unknown person while parked at Lakeside Avenue and Main Street. Surveillance footage showed someone walking by the car, but not jumping on the roof.

Shoplifting: A 15 year old juvenile from Hillside was arrested for attempting to steal $276 of Enfamil baby formula from the Essex Green Shoprite.

Burglary/Theft from MV: The owner of a 2008 Mercedes S550 reported the theft of a debit and credit card from his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway and left unlocked near Walker Road and Burnett Terrace.

Weapons Possession:  Jose Carlos Alvarado-Aroon, 26, of Orange; Levi Joel Arevalo, 35, of West Orange; Mario Alvarado, 26, of West Orange; and William Castillo, 37, of West Orange were arrested for weapons possession after police responded to a call about a shot fired in an apartment building on Washington Street.  A witness saw the suspects consuming alcohol and carrying on in the parking lot, followed by an impact noise. Alvarado-Aroon was identified holding a rifle, determined to be a pump style BB gun.
