PATERSON, NJ - A 45-year-old man escaped an armed robbery in the 5th Ward Monday night, police said.

The victim was driving down Summer Street at about 9:50 pm when a man in his 20s flagged him down near the corner of Oak Street, according to police. The suspect then pulled a gun and tried to rob the driver, police said. After a brief struggle, the motorist managed to get away, according to police.
