WEST ORANGE, NJ - If you ever attend a West Orange High School girls soccer game, it doesn't take long to realize Senior striker Dana Catanzarite has got it all figured out on the field. With devastating speed and eleven goals so far this season putting her at number six in the category of scoring in Essex County, it's safe to say the West Orange captain is having a great season.
However, Dana not only has it together on the field; she also has a pretty good idea of what her future is going to entail. “I want to be an architect and design my own nightclub,” said Catanzarite. She's always loved nightlife, has excelled in math and loves architecture and drawing, so combining those components to form a career only makes sense to her. “I want to design but I also want to own a business,” she said.
Drawing is not the only medium Catanzarite looks to for expression off the field. “I'm always listening to music,” said the senior forward. “Anything from country to house music.”
Besides putting up great numbers, Catanzarite does the small things that make a good leader and captain, being very vocal on the field and praising her teammates' efforts. Her best moment in her fourteen years of playing soccer and her three year varsity career came this season with a hard fought victory over Columbia, who, in her opinion, is her biggest rival. “They're equal to us in skill and every time we've played them it's always been back and forth.” Although she stole the show that game with a two goal performance in a 2-1 victory and scoring a late game tie breaker to put her team on top, Catanzarite can't help but direct credit to her teammates. “We played so well as a team that game and we just deserved to win...it felt awesome.”
The captain had a great past week, scoring a couple goals, one of which was the difference maker in a huge 1-0 victory over a very good Millburn team.
