Art Center Debuts Film Series

Summit, NJ: The Visual Arts Center of New Jersey will host its first Talking Pictures Film Series: The Representation of the Artist in Film. Opening night is November 6 with a screening of the critically acclaimed film, Basquiat, documenting the life of visual artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Film expert and author, Laura Winters, will host three, individual screenings of critically acclaimed films that explore the distinctive art forms of visual art, literature and music. Post-film discussions are led by Winters. Film schedule is as follows:

  • November 6, 2013, 7pm: Basquiat
  • November 13, 2013, 7pm: Capote
  • November 20, 2013, 7pm: Pirate Radio

Tickets for all three films: $30 member, $40 non-member or individual film: $12 member, $15 non-member.

About Dr. Winters

Dr. Laura Winters is a full-time Professor of English at the College of Saint Elizabeth where she has taught literature, writing, and film for 30 years. She is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Casperson School of Graduate Studies at Drew University where she has been on the faculty for over 20 years. Her publications include Willa Cather: Landscape and Exile, as well as articles on American literature and film. Dr. Winters presents regularly on literature, film, grief, and loss.
