MILLBURN, NJ – The Millburn Art Advisory unveiled the new permanent installation of Lenny Shapiro’s sculpture, “Rotare,” at the Public Library this weekend.

Laraine Brennan Barach, Chairwoman of the Art Advisory, said she was inspired to suggest an installation like this at the Library by the outdoor sculpture area she saw at the Contemporary Arts Museum in Chicago.

“Laraine and I both had a vision about making Millburn an art destination stop,” Shapiro said.  “The Library is a great location for a sculpture garden, being so close to downtown and the train station.”

Shapiro lived in Millburn for 37 years, and displayed some of his work on his property for all to see.  He recently downsized to a condominium in Roseland and has had to find new locations for some pieces.

“It is so wonderful that this public outdoor space is coming to life,” Barach said.  “It took five years.”

The seating area around the sculptures is scheduled to be completed in mid-November.

“This new piece is a fine complement to the existing sculpture,” said Michael Banick, Director of the Library.

Adding a piece from Shapiro was Mayor Sandra Haimoff’s idea, according to Barach.

“This is a wonderful thing to do in this, the Library’s 75th year,” Barach said.
