Arrest Made in Shooting Investigation

On Monday February 25, 2013 at about 5:45 PM, Karl R. Friday, wanted by Newton Police for Attempted Murder and related crimes in connection with a shooting that occurred on 2/8/2013 on Madison Street (click here for earlier release), was arrested by Agents of the United States Border Patrol in Sierra Blanca, Texas.
Friday was a passenger on a Greyhound Bus that entered an Immigration Inspection Checkpoint on Interstate 10 in Sierra Blanca, Texas. During the immigration inspection, Friday was unable to produce any identification and was detained by Border Patrol Agents. Further investigation by the Agents revealed that Friday was wanted by the Newton Police Department, who had previously entered him as a wanted person in the National Crime Information Center (NCIC). Agents confirmed his identity and wanted person status through an automated fingerprint identification system, photo comparison and contact with Newton Police.
Friday was arrested and charged with being a Fugitive From Justice by the Hudspeth County Sheriff’s Department. He was lodged in the Hudspeth County Jail and is awaiting extradition.
