Arrest at Westfield Train Station, Car Stolen From Driveway

Midori Nagai, 53, of Westfield was arrested for driving while intoxicated after a 911 call of an erratic driver in the area of Central Avenue and E. Broad Street. Nagai was transported to Headquarters where she was processed and released to a sober adult.
April 4, 2014 9:21 a.m.
A business owner in the 200 block of E. South Avenue reported an act of theft by deception to his store. A female actor ordered food on two different dates and stated she would return at a later time to pay but never did. The total amount of unpaid food items was $36.00.

James Peterson, 47, of Westfield reported to Police Headquarters to satisfy a $250.00 Bloomfield Criminal Warrant. Bail was posted and a court date is to be determined.
April 4, 2014 4:05 p.m.
A juvenile male, 16, was arrested near Washington Street for possession of CDS under 50 grams and paraphernalia. Subject was released to a responsible adult.
April 5, 2014 10:42 a.m.
A resident in the 600 block of Maye Street reported to be the victim of an act of criminal mischief. Actor(s) allegedly smashed a driver’s side window to the victim’s motor vehicle before fleeing the scene. There are no suspects at this time.

Alyssa Vita, 20, of Cranford was arrested for harassment, disorderly conduct, defiant trespasser, obstruct public passage and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the North Side Train Station subsequent to a police investigation. Vita was transported to Westfield Police Department where she was processed and placed into cell #3 default of bail. Vita was later transported to Union County Jail.

Jason Gilbert, 26, of Lincoln Park was arrested on an outstanding warrant #SC 2011003227 issued by the Westfield Municipal Court in the amount of $463.00 after a warrant pick up with the New Jersey State Police. Gilbert was transported to Westfield Police Department, processed and released after posting full bail.

Tabatha Garofalo, 31, of Ansonia, CT, was arrested pursuant to an investigation into a credit card fraud within an establishment in the central business district.

Report of the theft of an automobile, specifically a black Audi A6, valued at $55,000.00 from a driveway in the 600 block of Westfield Avenue.

Arlene Smith, 58, of Elizabeth was arrested for COC during a motor vehicle stop at South Avenue and Irvington Street.

Michael Kirkland, 19, of Scotch Plains was arrested for possession of CDS/marijuana under 50 grams pursuant to a motor vehicle stop in the 300 block of North Euclid Avenue. Kirkland was transported to Headquarters, processed and released on a summons.

Report of a theft in the 500 block of Washington Street. Actor(s) unknown entered an unlocked vehicle and took approximately $2,750.00 worth of goods.

A resident of the 400 block of Downer Street reports a found bicycle on their property. They stated that the bicycle had been on their front lawn a little more than one week. The bicycle is an “Excitor Magna”, Model# 8151-17.

A resident in the 400 block of Lawrence Avenue reported to be the victim of identity theft. The victim and her husband filed a tax return with H&R Block, only to discover an unknown actor(s) had already made an application in their name. The I.R.S. has been notified and there are no suspects at this time.

Edward McGovern, 54, of Westfield was arrested for driving while intoxicated. The incident occurred in front of 301 S. Avenue East.

Tony Velasquez, 24, of Elizabeth was arrested at police headquarters on two outstanding traffic warrants from Westfield and Mountainside Municipal Courts. Bail was posted at $1,000.00 cash and future court dates were scheduled.

A business within the 500 block of North Avenue was the victim of a motor vehicle theft. The incident was reported by an employee who claimed the rented vehicle was never returned. The cost of the vehicle’s replacement was $13,000.00.

Aswad Turner, 20, of Westfield was arrested for an outstanding warrant issued by Westfield municipal Court # S 2012 000112 and S 2013 000219. Total amount of bail is $2,500.00. Mr. Turner was transported to Westfield Police Department where he was processed and transported to Union County Jail in lieu of bail.
