NEWTON, NJ - A tractor-trailer driver was issued a careless driving summons on Sunday for a traffic mishap at the corner of Spring and Main streets.
Nikesha Scott of Ruskin, Fla. was navigating the right turn descending from Main Street to Spring Street at approximately 9:35 a.m. According to the Newton Police, Scott hit the traffic signal, which that in turn fell and struck the antique clock located at 1 Main St. which is suspended to the outside of the building where the office of the law firm Morris Downing Sherred LLP is located.
Though the accident has been cleared away for more than 24 hours, there are remnants left of its mark. There is minor damage to the clock, in which the impact stripped it of a segment of its copper covering.
A carnival ride that Scott towed on her tractor trailer was the culprit, when it collided with the traffic signal.
There were no injuries at the scene.
The incident required detours from the area during the day yesterday, as repair crews from the NJDOT tended to the signal, to return it to safe, operational order.
Newton Patrolmen Daniel Finkle and Jose Morales investigated the accident.
