LIVINGSTON, NJ - Mount Pleasant Middle School’s tenth annual walk-a-thon took place Monday morning, June 24. Under a bright almost cloudless sky, roughly 200 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders walked with each other around the baseball and soccer field behind the Mt. Pleasant Middle School.

Jayne Cori, Student Council Advisor, said that the event was designed to promote healthy activists among the school’s students. “The event is just to promote good health and staying physically active.”

She went on to say that that’s not all the event is good for. “It’s the end of the year; the children get to go outside, and they just enjoy the walk.”

In addition to the school’s staff, the event is coordinated by Mt. Pleasant’s student council. “The children, they help with the planning, and they set up a lot of the event promotions,” Cori said.

Donations for the Feed the Children Foundation were also collected at the event. The suggested donation was one dollar. The Feed the Children Foundation’s mission “is to provide hope and resources for those without life’s essentials to ensure that no child or family goes to bed hungry.”

Hundreds of bottles of water were set up on tables beside the soccer and baseball field where the walk-a-thon took place. Cori said that everything was generously donated by the Home on School Association.
