SUMMIT, NJ – The deadline to buy an ad in the 2012 Summit Hilltopper Annual Sports Journal has been extended through Friday, Aug. 24.

Since its inception five years ago, the book has become a part of the Summit sports culture. It started as a black and white book featuring mostly Summit football, but has since grown to a full-color coffee table book that features all the local high school sports teams.

The purpose of the book, according to Melanie Wilson, director of advertising for the Summit Hilltoppers, is to allow local businesses to show their support for the local sports programs.

“It’s a vehicle for our businesses to let our student athletes know we’re behind them,” she explained. “All the profits go back to Summit athletics.”

Wilson said each team submits an individual wish list – for equipment or any other reasonable need – and proceeds from the book’s ad sales go toward helping grant those wishes.

The book includes head shots of every senior and photos of every team.

“It’s a beautiful book,” Wilson said. “People collect them now. They’re truly keepsakes.”
