CHATHAM, NJ - Local runners are getting limbered up and ready for the 35th Chatham Jaycees' Fishawack Run, a one-mile or four-mile race through Chatham, held annually as part of the Fishawack Festival on Saturday, June 9. The one-mile run begins at 9 a.m. and the four-mile begins at 9:30 a.m.

Bill Heap and Brian Hart of the Chatham Jaycees recently showed the Chatham Borough Council the design of this year's t-shirt, which is purple for the first time. A race quit, made out of t-shirts from the past 35 years' races, is on display at Cafe Beethoven.

Participants in the race will also receive a discount coupon attached to their race number, which can be redeemed for 10 percent off their next purchase at Starting Line Sports.

All race registration fees are $25. Children 12 and under will be allowed to run only the one-mile race.

Registration forms are available at Starting Line Sports, 67 Main Street in Madison, or the John Hawk Agency, 11 South Passaic Avenue in Chatham. Runners also can register the day of the race, beginning at 8 a.m. in the southern parking lot of the train station.

Sponsors and supporters of the race include Dunkin' Donuts , J. Weber Design, Coldwell Banker, Guardian Life, Intermedium Financial, Pfizer and Kings Super Market.

There will be a prize for the person wearing the oldest Fishawack Run T-shirt, and for the first place in different age groups in the four-mile race, and men and women who come in first, second and third place in both races.

There will be limited day-of registration on June 9 at the booth near ECLC School. Custom T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 300 registered runners.

Proceeds from the race benefit the ECLC School, the Boy and Girl Scouts, the Chatham Emergency Squad and different PTOs and scholarship funds.
