Enjoy a good read, meet teachers and taste delectable sweet treats at the non-profit German School of Morris County’s (http://www.glsmc.org) semi-annual gently used books and bake sale and open house on Saturday March 9, 2013 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the school, located on the campus of the Morristown Beard School, 70 Whippany Road in Morristown, NJ.
“In addition to sharing a taste of our heritage with homemade desserts and pastries that are typical to the bakeries and coffeehouses found throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland, we have a superb selection of gently used German books and our families can learn more about our programs,” says GLSMC School Principal Michaela Greco. “The money we raise on this day helps us pay for additional classroom and interactive learning materials.”
The GLSMC’s Book & Bake Sale Committee has selected a variety of books for both new and experienced readers, including board books, picture books, chapter books and award-winning novels that help families expand their foreign language library.
Typical desserts found in a German bakery include: a variety of fine butter, sugar and fruit cookies, cream and fruit layer cakes, fruit tortes, strudels and pastries filled with mousses and creams. Germans, Swiss & Austrians often take a work or meet friends at a coffee house or bakery at four o’clock to enjoy a hot espresso or coffee, accompanied by a sweet treat.
Each year students at the School perform during the annual “Weihnachstmarkt” Christmas Market, held in Sparta, NJ. The Jurgaitis family from Hopatcong, NJ, won this year’s annual raffle for a semester of free tuition for a child and has enrolled their twins in the MusikGarden class.
Since 1968, the GLSMC has offered students of all ages German language classes. This thriving non-profit organization with more than 150 students is recognized as a German foreign language school by the German Federal Ministry of Culture (Kultusministerkonferenz (KMK) der Länder der Bundesrepublik Deutschland.) A member of The German Language School Conference (GLSC), and a partner school of the initiative, “Schools: Partner for the Future,” of the German Department of the Exterior, the GLSMC is also supported by the Ambassadors of German-speaking countries, the Bundesverwaltungsamt, the German Language Consultant, the Verein für deutsche Kulturbeziehungen im Ausland (VDA) and the Literary Society Foundation. Visit us online at www.glsmc.org for more information about open enrollment and to register for our Mommy & Me, K-12 and adult language classes.
