SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – It was a packed house at Above Restaurant and Bar on Thursday night as generous locals turned out for Angelina’s Fundraiser, a night of dining and drinking to raise money to help pay for the medical treatment of Angelina, a four-year-old Maplewood girl with Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer.

South Orange resident and Trustee Sheena Collum read about Angelina on the HK Project website and decided to host a local fundraising social with other supporters including Kathy Greenstone, Marcy Felsenfeld, and SHU student Briana Canterino who is Angelina’s babysitter.   She reached out to Above manager Mario LaVecchia and owner Mario Andreani who quickly agreed to donate 30% of all the evening’s receipts plus $20 per person in attendance to the cause.

Angelina and her family were able to attend the event and were surprised by the large turnout.

“We are so humbled by the amount of support the community is showing,” said Angelina’s mother, Danielle Phillips.  “There are people we know, people we don’t…We love Angelina so much, and it is incredible to see how much others in the community have come to care for her.”

Angelina has quite a large following on Facebook and her supporters, Angelina’s Army, are doing everything they can to help her in this battle.

“We got roughly 200 people to the event,” Collum said. “I just got the final numbers, and we raised $8,000 in 5 hours for this little girl.”

Angelina is about halfway through her course of treatment, having endured six rounds of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant. Phillips reports that Angelina is gearing up for more radiation treatment and then will receive a new form of immunotherapy which will occur in sessions lasting three to five days per month for the next six months.
