RANDOLPH, NJ - The new recreation center was alive with Christmas spirit Saturday night as hundreds of Randolph residents attended the annual tree-lighting and concert. The Randolph Middle School Canzonetta Choir kept everyone warm despite the bitter cold temperature.
David Allu, Randolph Middle School Director of Choirs and Canzonetta, conducted a talented group of seventh and eighth graders in singing several favorite holiday songs outside next to the new Gazebo and Christmas tree.
Parks and Recreation Director Russ Newman thanked everyone for coming out, and welcomed Mayor Tom MacArthur, Town Council members, Deputy Mayor Jim Loveys, and Town Manager John Lovell. Bethlehem Church was acknowledged for donating the supplies for children to make Christmas cards for Operation Appreciation. The cards will be sent along with other donations to military troops overseas.
The staff of Brighton Cromwell has once again joined forces with the United Way of Northern New Jersey for operation appreciation. This program sends care packages during the holiday season to soldiers serving overseas. Donations have been collected for a few weeks at the recreation center and will be collected through Monday, Dec. 9.
After the singing was completed, the tree under the gazebo was lit to a chorus of cheers. Just then, the children began running towards the most anticipated visitor of the evening, Santa Claus. The line was long for the children to sit on Santa’s lap, but everyone managed to let him know what was on their lists this year.
Cookies and hot chocolate, served by Newman and his wife, completed the evening.
