American Legion and Borough of Caldwell To Host Fire Relief Benefit for Gould Place Fire Victims

CALDWELL, NJ - On Sunday, March 9, the public is invited to attend a fundraiser for the four families who lost their homes and possessions in the Jan. 23 fire on Gould Place. The Borough of Caldwell along with members of the Caldwell American Legion Post 185 are rallying behind the familes by hosting the relief benefit at the American Legion Hall from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult and the hall is located at 303 Bloomfield Ave, Caldwell. 

"The donations will be deposited into the borough's Trust account for Assistance," explained Caldwell Mayor Ann Dassing. "The Local Board of Assistance (a Borough-appointed Board) along with Health and Human Services Director Maria Burak, with input from the volunteer committee, will decide how the money will be dispensed."

The event will feature a hot buffet, complete with homemade meatballs, baked ziti, mac and cheese, sausage and peppers, fresh rolls, hotdogs, chicken nuggets, an assortment of desserts, coffee and tea. Soda and water is included in the entrance price and beer and wine can be purchased.

Students from Caldwell College will be on hand to provide free face painting to entertain the youngsters and the Caldwell Police and Fire Department personnel and volunteers from the West Essex First Aid Squad will be there with 
fire safety tips and materials. 
 
 “I want to thank the American Legion organization, for stepping up and planning this wonderful event for our families. Their caring is indicative of the type of community that Caldwell is and I am so grateful for their kindness to our families
who have lost everything,” stated the mayor. 

The event is also made possible by generous donations by local business owners including, The Corner Butcher Block, Calandra’s Italian Village, David Chad Salon, the Kiwanis Club of Caldwell-West Essex, and Rotary Club of the Caldwells. 
 
There is no need to pre-register for the event and families are encouraged to attend and lend their support to their fellow neighbors and friends.
