American Elections & Foreign Policy, topic of a talk at Warren Twp Library
Tuesday, October 8, 2013 • 2:14pm
Common wisdom is that foreign affairs really do not play a very big role in American national elections be they presidential, midterm, or off-year. In the words of former House Speaker Tip O'Neill, 'All Politics is Local'. Is this really true when it comes to elections? This lecture will explore the historic role of foreign policy and world events on American elections as far back as the beginning of the 20th Century up to and in anticipation of the upcoming off-year elections of 2013 and the midterm elections of 2014. The primary contention will be that, indeed, foreign policy does matter.
