NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ - Allen W. Roberts School's biggest fundraiser of the year, the Spring Fling, is set for this Friday, March 21 at the Berkeley Plaza in Berkeley Heights. This year's theme is "When you Wish Upon a Star, Dreams Come True for AWR."
Last year's Spring Fling raised $25,000. Ticket sales this year have already reached last year's level, and a record number of teachers will be attending.
A pre-sale special included five free raffle tickets with a purchase. Many people took advantage of this special.
The money raised this year will go toward redoing the courtyard at AWR School.
"We are working with an architect and the teachers at AWR and coming up with plans to transform this space into an Outdoor Learning Environment," said Alissa Rust, a member of the Spring Fling's organizing committee. "The objectives of this environment are to accommodate two classes at a time with cooperative learning spaces. It will include a stage, rain barrels, a place to display work, tables, benches and seats made out of tree stumps and much, much more."
The Spring Fling 2014 event is for parents, staff and and anyone wanting to support AWR. The price of the event is $55 if tickets are purchased before, and $60 if purchased at the door.
The event includes passed hors d'oeuvres, full buffet dinner, dessert, beer, wine and more. There will be a silent auction, big ticket raffles, and more than 100 raffle baskets, as well as a 50/50.
"We will also be selling wooden flower petals that parents can personalize," Rust said. "The petals will come together to form a large wooden flower that will be displayed outside in the Outdoor Learning Environment."
The committee includes Alissa Rust, Maria DeLuca, Jen Blougouras, Alissa Dorman, Ellen Johnson and Christine Tallone.
