A fire broke out at the Meadowview Nursing Home in Northfield at around 5 AM this morning. The fire started in a single room on the first floor from what officials believe was a radio. The fire remains under investigation and the exact cause has not yet been determined at this time.

According to Meadowview Administrator Michelle Savage, the alarm sounded and the sprinkler system was activated. A staff member saw smoke coming from the room and removed the single occupant to safety. Rooms in the affected hallway were evacuated and approximately 17 patients were moved to the county dining room where they remained for 1-1/2 to 2 hours. No one was moved outside or removed by ambulance. There are no injuries to patients or staff.

A room on the garden floor level beneath the room where the fire started was also affected by water from the sprinkler system. The single occupant of that room was relocated.

Family members of the affected patients were immediately contacted and informed of the fire. Staff members are now in the process of reaching out to all other patients’ families.

All patients are safe and operations have returned to normal.
