Alert Neighbor Thwarts Bicycle Theft

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Police recovered a stolen bicycle and arrested three juveniles in connection with the theft on Jan. 29. A Richmond Avenue resident called police after seeing the three take a BMX bicycle from her neighbor’s yard at about 2:30 p.m.

In other police news:

  • Police are investigating three incidents of criminal mischief. A Crestwood Drive resident told police she heard a truck and when she went outside to investigate, she saw the retaining wall at the end of her driveway had been damaged. The damage was reported on Jan. 30. Vandals painted the sides of a sculpture at the Duck Pond and carved a triangle into it sometime before 9:30 a.m. on Jan. 28. A female victim reported her driver’s side door lock was damaged while her vehicle was parked at Seton Hall University on Jan. 27. No items were stolen.
     
  • Officers arrested a 16-year-old South Orange resident after they observed the youth buying alcohol from another individual who has just purchased it. The arrest occurred at 8 p.m. on Jan. 27.
