MORRISTOWN, NJ – The Chatham High School ice hockey team has been on a roll as of late. Their most recent victory, a 6-0 shutout over Montville in the state tournament’s Round of 16 at Mennen Arena on Friday night.

Chatham goaltender C.J. Albanese led the way for the Cougars with a stellar 21-save performance in goal.

“It definitely feels great,” Albanese said on the shutout. “After last season’s run, we wanted to get a good start in the playoffs and we definitely did that tonight. We played well defensively and offensively, which led us to the win.”

On the other side of the rink, Montville goaltender Josh Beron finished with 33 saves on Chatham’s skaters.

“They played well,” Beron said. “They came out hard from start to finish. I thought we played well as a team, but losing is a part of the game.”

William Barnett (two goals), Jack O’Connor, Brett Montgomery, Austin Pierce, and Teddy Simson each contributed to Chatham’s victory on Friday night. William Barnett’s second goal of the game, as well as Brett Montgomery’s goal was scored on the power play. Teddy Simson led his team to victory by firing his rapid shot on goal midway in the third period.

“It was great,” Simson said. “I was able to get the shot straight through. There’s nothing better than getting a win in the playoffs.”

Despite Chatham emerging from the game with a shutout, head coach Frank Gilberti has respect for Montville and what they were able to accomplish this season as a team.

“It was a great game,” Gilberti said. “Montville played a good game and they had a very good season. We have a lot of respect for the way they perform.”

Last season, Chatham shut out Morristown for the Public B title at the Prudential Center in Newark. In order to reach the Brick City once again, Chatham has three more steps to climb. Be sure to watch the Cougars in their next game on Monday at Mennen Arena. The time and opponent for are to be determined.
