PATERSON, NJ - Some kids play sports after school. Others go to the library to do their homework. On Monday, Paterson police encountered three Kennedy High students who authorities say had a less wholesome after-school activity. They committed a burglary in the Hillcrest neighborhood that afternoon while still wearing their school uniforms, according to Lt. Richard Reyes.
A resident spotted the three boys - two 14-year-olds and a 16-year-old - near a burglarized house and one of the three dropped a jewelry box that had been taken from the home, authorities said. Police said they later found the teens in possession of jewelry that had been taken from the house.
The youthshave been charged in connection with the one burglary and detectives are investigating whether they were involved in other break-ins that have happened in the Hillcrest neighborhood recently, Reyes said.
The arresting officers were Sgt. Sharon Easton and Dalton Price of the city's community policing program.
