Adult Summer Reading Program @ NPML

New Providence Memorial Library

Sunday, June 15, 2014 • 8:26pm

New Providence Memorial Library is in the middle of its second annual Adult Summer Reading Program.  The Program started on June 1 and runs until July 31.  Unlike what you remember from school, there are no reading lists and there’s no registration.  Instead, we throw out a discussion question each week and ask participants to respond based on what they’re reading at the moment or have recently finished.

Discussions have allowed participants to learn about books and authors we’d never have thought about reading, sometimes gain insight into what we’ve read and even critique movies.  So far, we’ve discussed titles and questions we’d like to ask the author.  This week, we’re talking about characters.

Participants have a choice of written responses or online responses via the library’s Facebook page or online reading group on the GoodReads platform.  If you already have a GoodReads account, just look for the NPML Online Reading Group and join.  If not, pick up a brochure in the white basket on the Circulation Desk to learn how.  Brochures also describe the program and summarize the prizes.

Eight generous businesses in New Providence have donated prizes that we award each week.  Weekly winners are chosen in a drawing from among all who participated in that week’s discussion.  Participants are also entered into our grand prize drawing which will take place at our end-of-program party on July 31.  So far we’ve awarded $10 gift cards to A&P and New Providence Florist.  This week, the prize is a $10 gift card from Paolo’s Kitchen.  Other weekly prizes include $10 gift cards to McGrath’s, A&P, Coppola’s, Tables for Two and NP Florist.  Grand Prizes will consist of a gift basket from Starbucks and $25 gift cards to Skin Deep Spa and NP Fuel.
